TransAdelaide plan for fewer seats on our trains
TransAdelaide general manager Bill Watson has written to a disgruntled commuter who complained about a train carriage with reduced seating that has been on trial for six weeks. His letter to Seacliff Park commuter Ivan Winter says: "Standing room, especially in peak periods, is the reality of all public transport systems in all major cities." Mr Watson said replacing the decks of three seats along one side of Carriage 2103 with decks of two seats, did not cut the carriage's capacity because standing room had been increased. "My immediate reaction to that is that it is outrageous," Mr Winter said yesterday. "We ought to be developing and improving our public transport. Instead, what we're seeing from the operator is they are degrading it .
A new nuclear age
Its return on investment may not look favourable now, but when the price of electricity doubles, triples, or quadruples, that makes the solar rooftop look a lot better.AND...conserve energy now. Reply Alert moderator Loxley : 23 Jan 2008 7:59:34pm I note you say the new nuclear technology has a much lower risk for disaster Is that not in itself an admission that nuclear technology is unsafe? Reply Alert moderator LC : 24 Jan 2008 12:46:17am I note that you are using an electrical device containing components made of plastics, arsenic, cadmium, bromine, chromium, lead and mercury to make your posts. Given that thousands of people per year are electrocuted or poisoned by said chemicals are you not engaging in unsafe activities? Reply Alert moderator Loxley : 24 Jan 2008 6:59:23pm And your point is?Electrical devices kill people because the user usually mistreat them or fails to maintain them adequately People also have a choice in that knowing that there is very small chance it might kill them, whether they want to use such devices.
Older Belligerent Men
If John McCain wins the nomination, he'll do so on the backs of older belligerent men. What is this new swing voter bloc? It's something I've teased out from exit polls and anecdotal observations. It helps explain why McCain has decent enough conservative appeal to keep racking up pluralities in places like South Carolina and Florida. First, the exit polls. McCain does best with older voters. He does better with men than women. He wins military veterans and those who believe the war in Iraq is the most important issue. None of this should be surprising. All of these qualities apply to McCain personally. But there is something more raw and instinctual at work here too. Older belligerent men are not afraid of confrontation, either personally or politically. I've heard more than one guy mention McCain's volcanic temper as a positive.
Ethnic tensions divide Iran
These organizations operate in the absence of Islam and its estrangement among its people. TheIslamic peoples should perform their role in confronting the conspiracies of these saboteurs. The day Islam is in control of guiding the affairs of life, these organizations*, hostile to humanity and Islam, will be obliterated. .
Call to scrap Hogmanay party tickets
Steve Cardownie, who also serves as the city's deputy council leader, said the street party had become a victim of its own success with revellers being lured to "copycat" celebrations elsewhere. The event peaked in 1997 when 300,000 people crammed into the city centre – raising safety fears and prompting a cordon and a strict ticket-only policy. Then 180,000 celebrated the millennium in Princes Street but the number of revellers has dropped further with just 100,000 this year opting for the £5 or £20 tickets.Mr Cardownie said: "At one time, the street party was the only one of its kind in the UK, but it has now been replicated in cities like Newcastle, Liverpool and Glasgow so people aren't coming to Edinburgh in the vast numbers they did in previous years."That means we might not need the enclosed spaces and the expense of stewarding which could also allow us to get rid of charging people for tickets."Mr Cardownie, who is responsible for Edinburgh's festivals and events, suggested it was time to look further afield for ideas on how to improve the street party.
Safety fear could push bike tours off summit
WAILUKU » A preliminary assessment does not seem to bode well for bicycle tours at Haleakala National Park. Park Superintendent Marilyn Parris said the draft assessment by a federal safety panel found bicycle tours pose among the highest risks of recreational injury and accidents in national parks. Parris suspended bicycle tours in the park on Oct. 10, after a couple of fatal accidents, and is planning to arrive at a decision about the future of the activity at Haleakala by mid-March. He’s a Uniter, Decider, and Now, Interpreter
We are certainly headed into a new era of totalatarianism and it appears many of the Democrats are assisting the movement. Why has Impeachment been ignored by so many of our Congressmen? Is it because their pockets are being lined with silver? Unless we come up with candidates that are looking out for the interest of their constituants, corporate greed will continue and continue to grow! At least (4) four different Representatives have offered Impeachment initiatives, so………….. I don't have all the knowledge it takes for our political system, but I do know when I'm getting screwed. .
