SAG awards cast in a lead role

TV Guide's coverage starts at 4 p.m., with Rinna and Fatone joining at 6.

Rinna and Fatone were hired by TV Guide last April to be the faces of the network for red carpet events at major awards shows. The first for the duo was last September's Primetime Emmy Awards.

Rinna said she was sad the Globes were canceled, in part, because she wanted to feel the momentum of going from the Globes into the Oscars on the red carpet.

"I haven't seen Joey since the Emmys," she said. "That's what's so kind of strange about it. It's been four months. I'm looking forward to doing a few of these."

She'll be in New York next week for a Thursday appearance on "Live With Regis & Kelly," then she'll head back to Los Angeles for red carpet rehearsals.

"We have stand-ins come and pretend to be Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie.

Suburban Joy

Only 55 km along the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road, the desert stops and Al-Solaimaneyah begins. A broad, commercial high street penetrates the middle of the villa area, where all the action takes place. It is alive with restaurants, shops, entertainment centers, public utilities, gardens, and a 200-m promenade platform even as the area continues to grow.

This charming upscale community is carefully designed to ensure the privacy of villa owners. The architectural style is unique, both modern yet reflective of the demands of most Egyptian families. Recreation comes in the form of golf facilities, large, outdoor jogging areas around a lagoon, and mega-chess game at the Swan Café, in addition to football, tennis, swimming and volleyball.

A large area is allocated to a language school that includes a nursery, kindergarten, primary, preparatory andsecondary schools.

New Pima Canyon parking too tight for comfort

The idea was to revamp Pima Canyon to prevent visitors from parking on the dirt in the park and to make sure there was room for emergency vehicles to get to the trail head. But in protecting the park, the number of vehicles that could be parked was severely reduced and the newly-striped parking spaces are so small that pickup trucks and sports utility vehicles can barely fit in. "You have to be really careful when you park," said Ryan Page of Tempe, who was in the park last week preparing to hike into South Mountain Park. "The spaces are just too small and people don’t know how to park." The spaces are small because Phoenix has a double standard when it comes to parallel parking spaces: 21 feet long for a metered parking space downtown and 18 feet everywhere else, including Pima Canyon.

Flooded I-5 could open one lane tonight

It alleged that some of the center's 4,200 monkeys suffered needlessly at the hands of center personnel.

The complaint was based on the observations of an undercover investigator for PETA, who took a job as a monkey handler at the center from April to July.

PETA accused the center of violating eight provisions of the federal Animal Welfare Act, including failing to prevent monkeys from suffering trauma, behavioral stress, physical harm and unnecessary discomfort. The group also accused the center of failing to provide timely or effective veterinary care to monkeys suffering from chronic vomiting, kidney stones and other ailments.

On Tuesday, Michael Conn, the acting head of the center's animal services division, said he thought reasonable people would take the word of USDA inspectors over unnamed animal-rights activists.

VIDEO: Try learning the ropes as a bellringer

It's a fascinating folk skill handed down from generation to generation and local tower captains are always looking for new recruits.St Mary's captain Keith Lewin, 61, said he first became interested in the ancient craft when he was riding near the Luton parish church on his bicycle."I liked the building and heard the bells ringing. So I stopped to listen – and I've been involved ever since," the retired English teacher said."If you're taught how to ring properly, you never forget. Some people come back after a gap of 20 years."It's a hobby that would suit anyone – from youngsters to senior citizens. Sometimes whole families pull together. Initial teaching is on a one-to-one basis and most beginners are capable of joining a band within a few weeks or months. You don't have to be particularly musical or mathematical to enjoy ringing.

Chaffee is a small (complicated) town

The ice storm and a weeks' worth of second thoughts seem to have neutralized some bitter feelings among elected officials.

The storm clearly brought out the best in the town. Everyone involved in responding --from the mayor and police chief to firefighters and street crew -- was uniformly praised by those present at Monday's meeting.

No one talked about the failed impeachment vote at the Feb. 6 closed meeting. No one complained about the police department's investigative stops.

On Friday, while Councilman Tom Cunningham was selling tickets for the Elks' fish fry, Richie Seyer was at the other end of the room, making sure folks had enough ice water or tea.

Seyer shrugged off talk about the police stops -- it happened to a friend, but, whatever -- and wasn't sure what to think of the attempted impeachment.

Book on Rajnikanth to hit stalls soon

Megastar Rajnikanth was a spoilt brat when he was five-years-old, bullied people when he was 10 and tied cycle chains around his neck at 20.

All these and many more aspects of the southern screen icon's life will be revealed in a new book that will hit the market in the first week of March.

The book, The Name is Rajnikanth, is a biographical sketch of the southern megastar. Supported by nearly 100 pictures, it has 384 pages and costs Rs.495.

"He was very naughty and used to bully people. Rajni, along with his friends, used to play marbles and if anybody else other than him won the game, he used to beat him up," author Gayatri Shreekanth told IANS.

"He used to walk very fast and his friends complained that they could never match his pace.
