| Tourists create more CO2 than we do
Last week, Environment Minister Jane Davidson published an Energy Route Map which aims to generate all Wales' electricity from renewable energy sources by 2025. Prof Cooke said, "Currently, CO2 emissions per head in Wales, at 14.2 tonnes per head per year, are the third highest in Europe and the 12th highest globally, even though much of Wales is rural and sparsely populated. But tourists, of whom Wales has around 12 million a year, push our total emissions much higher. "Although tourists tend to come to Wales for quite short periods, they are responsible for higher CO2 emissions through heating and lighting, car use and waste." Prof Cooke said, "I'm not saying Wales should be deterring visitors. Obviously tourism is a very important part of the Welsh economy.
Delhi's fearless cycle enthusiasts
Cycling may not yet be classified as an extreme sport, but a quick pedal around central Delhi in the evening rush hour suggests it may want to put in an application. Buses roar past, belching fumes. Cars weave in and out of imaginary lanes, and auto-rickshaws try to overtake you on the inside. It is certainly not the safest way to see the sights in India's capital, and it makes for a dangerous commute. But Delhi's cyclists hope their time is about to come. The Delhi Cycling Club has about 250 members at the moment - with a target of 1,000 by the end of the year. 'Fed up' "The good thing is that most of the people who are getting enrolled with us are car users who want to give up cars," says Nalin Sinha, a leading member of the club, who campaigns on road safety issues.
Social Media Metrics
Shaping the dialogue are the conversation's level and the insight of people whose opinions matter. The issue isn't why, what, or how we should measure social media. There are answers for every one of those. We measure because it leads us down a path of sustainable results toward a process of continuous improvement. Even if we start aimed 180 degrees from where we want to go, with the combination of a plan and some basic metrics, not only will we get turned in the right direction, we'll actually get there. More practically, if we can't express our objectives and methodology quantitatively, we have zero chance of selling in our ideas. This doesn't mean that we run by numbers alone; we don't. But it means that at some point as a CMO you'll be up against the COO competing for dollars, and your CEO and CFO will be the ultimate arbiters.
A peek into the world of intensive
Every health care facility has its complement of caring nurses, Nurse Sandy Ferguson, however, is an exceptionally gifted nurse. Apart from her many professional accomplishments and vast experience in nursing, she is a tremendous woman of faith who is willing and ready to take the hand of her patients and pray to her God with them, as they face some of the most terrifying moments known to the human condition. The book is elegant in its simplicity, immensely readable and beautifully crafted. While all names have been changed to ensure confidentiality, all of the 15 short chapters are about actual cases and real persons that Nurse Ferguson has nursed in the clinical setting. One wonders how a human being could cope with such high levels of stress, but, in the case of Nurse Ferguson, she seemed to thrive on it.

Ice closes schools; more could come
The snow hit late Thursday afternoon, quickly turning roads icy. Apart From Used Chip Fat, There Is No Such Thing as a Sustainable ...
Now they might start sitting up. They wouldn't listen to the environmentalists or even the geologists. Can governments ignore the capitalists? A report published last week by Citibank, and so far unremarked on by the media, proposes "genuine difficulties" in increasing the production of crude oil, "particularly after 2012″. Though 175 big drilling projects will start in the next four years, "the fear remains that most of this supply will be offset by high levels of decline". The oil industry has scoffed at the notion that oil supplies might peak, but "recent evidence of failed production growth would tend to shift the burden of proof on to the producers", as they have been unable to respond to the massive rise in prices. "Total global liquid hydrocarbon production has essentially flatlined since mid 2005 at just north of 85m barrels per day." The issue is complicated, as ever, by the refusal of the Opec cartel to raise production.
