Long-distance loss

A LeBron James' layup that seemed to go all the way into the basket and come out and a finesse floater that Shawn Marion made with 1.1 seconds to go that gave the Phoenix Suns a 110-108 victory over the Cavaliers. It was a sour end to the Cavs' five-game winning streak and their six-game home winning streak.

For James, the miss was a blemish on another great game — 36 points and seven rebounds. For Marion, it was his only basket of what previously had been a forgettable evening.

In reality, those were merely the final details, not the crux of the evening. On the cusp of another high-quality win in their run of solid play since Christmas, the Cavs (23-19) rested on their laurels in the second half, and it caught up with them against a marquee opponent like the Suns (31-13).

Whatta trip! Outings cool enough for a teen

A week on a beach or at a fancy resort sounds dreamy, but wouldn't most of us go buggy after a couple of days? Here are some ideas that a pre-teen or teenagers might consider hip.

Hot spots in Washington: In this presidential election year, gather the family for a trip to the nation's capital and an adventure that follows the Trails to Treasure, a self-guided tour which highlights the sites featured in the movie "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." Some of the movie locations include the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, Ford's Theatre, the White House, Georgetown and George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. More than a dozen Washington hotels offer packages, from $109 a night during the winter. www.trailstotreasure.com

Amgen Tour of CA 2008 - Stage 2 Team Reports

Team CSC had Fabian Cancellara and Gustav Larsson up front during Wednesday's mountain stage in Tour of California. The 152-kilometer third stage was won by Robert Gesink (Rabobank) ahead of overall leader, Levi Leipheimer (Astana). But Cancellara impressively managed to maintain his overall second place.

During the final of three very tough climbs Gesink and Leipheimer tore them selves loose from the rest of the front group, but following the decent they had 20 kilometers of flat road until the finish line in San Jos.

At one point Leipheimer was almost one and a half minute ahead of the two Team CSC riders, who were working together with the rest of the group of 14, which had gathered behind Gesink and Leipheimer.

Fabian Cancellara - kiss left, kiss right.

The Chilton County Relay for Life group is getting ready to make their big walk in just two months. This year they had a goal set to raise $201,000 along with having 55 teams. So far, they are only nine teams away from having their goal, and they are working on reaching their goals for this year's total Relay for Life donation.

Area Director Morgan Choat said, "Everyone needs to be registered for their Relay for Life teams by our next captain meeting on March 5 to make sure that we will have enough T-shirts for everyone on the teams."

The different ways to register are online and by filling out the written form. Anyone with questions should visit http://events.cancer.org/rflchiltonal. This Web site can also be used to make donations to your local teams, who are all working extra hard to raise money for cancer awareness and survival.

We've rented cottages four times in Devon, England's southwestern county noted for clotted cream, gorgeous countryside, famous seafarers such as Drake and Raleigh, and now local organic foods. One cottage was a thatched, 13th century granite farmhouse on the edge of Dartmoor National Park; two were in Chagford, a village surrounded by wonderful hiking country and small shops supplying high-quality foods. Our most recent stay in April was in an 18th century thatched cottage in Budleigh Salterton, a small seaside town on the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. All the cottages have gardens and are well equipped and comfortable.

Chagford is a lively village with a 14th century church. Most traffic is on foot, and you're as likely to hear horses clopping down the street as automobiles.
