| Happy All-Star Break: Denis Savard, Brent Sutter Call Out Their ...
When Denis Savard and Brent Sutter were teammates on the 1996 Blackhawks, I wonder if they ever thought they'd be coaching in the National Hockey League at the same time. Beyond that, I wonder if they ever imagined they'd throw their players under the bus on the same night. After Chicago's 1-0 loss to Columbus last night, Coach Savard went rip city on a number of unnamed players that the team has committed to via long-term contracts, but whom he feels have not committed to paying the price for victory: "They were very happy when they signed it ... Well, commit to us, commit to the jersey, commit to the people here. They don't want to commit to the Indian, let's go upstairs and get them out of here ... The message of (Chairman Rocky Wirtz, President John McDonough and general manager Dale Tallon) is pretty clear: We're here to win the Stanley Cup.

Complaints against police nearly double
In all, 88 officers were investigated internally since 2005, and 27 received some form of discipline. In that time, at least eight police officers were either fired or left the department, and five were suspended for at least one shift. The number of allegations isn't so large when put into perspective, said police Sgt. Robb Harry.Two-thirds of the investigations conducted during the three-year period led to no action because the employee was found to either have done nothing wrong or there was not enough evidence to support allegations of wrongdoing.Of the rest, most of the discipline was minor: oral or written reprimands. About 15 percent resulted in suspensions, resignations or firings. No officer was demoted during that timeframe. The increase in complaints comes at a time when the Police Department is already facing questions about its image.
City commissioners vote to require owners of vacant structures in ...
Weve presented a proposed sign ordinance draft to the Planning Commission, but they decided to continue the issue for, I think, 30 days, Brown said in a pre-meeting briefing. If they review (the ordinance) and recommend approval, it could be available by your March night meeting. Commissioners also voted to grant the Downtown Merchants Association an exemption to the citys open-container law from 11 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday during the annual Mardi Gras celebration, and approved a request by Downtown Manager Don Buie to pass an ordinance requiring owners of vacant structures to register the structure with the Planning Department within 10 days of receiving notice of the designation by Code Enforcement. Its a matter of safety, Buie said after the meeting. By giving a detailed registration of a vacant structure, the owners will provide police, fire and EMS an accounting of any potential dangers associated with the structure.
Moderator says anti-English bigotry is 'like sectarianism'
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland also claims in an Address for Lent on race relations in the UK that anti-English "banter" during sporting occasions could be harmful as it might lead to more sinister behaviour. The Rt Rev Sheilagh Kesting warns that anti-English attitudes are stoking growing anti-Scottish resentment south of the Border. In perhaps the most controversial passage of her address, the Moderator urged people to think twice before making racially tinged remarks during sporting events."There is a thin line between banter and something which is more sinister," she said. "In Scotland, we have got used to football as a context for perpetrating sectarianism so I don't think we can pass off lightly anti-English remarks which are made during matches. It is too easy to dismiss this as healthy rivalry.
