| McCain Camp Declares Victory
There may be places where a physical barrier is appropriate. I think when both of us voted for this we were voting for the possibility that where it was appropriate and made sense it would be considered, but as with so much, the Bush administration has gone off the deep end, and they are unfortunately coming up with a plan that I think is counterproductive. [E.A.] Hmm. Isn't that a little like voting for the Iraq War and then saying you were just voting for the possibility that if it were appropriate it would be considered? In this case, though, Obama is attempting the same two-step. He says he and Clinton "almost entirely agree" regarding the fence, adding As Senator Clinton indicated, there may be areas where it makes sense to have some fencing. But for the most part, having Border Patrol, surveillance, deploying effective technology, that's going to be the better approach.
Free! Why $0.00 Is the Future of Business
In the arc of history, all three substances are still new, and we have a lot to learn about them. We are just a few decades into the discovery of a new world. What does this mean for the notion of free? Well, just take one example. Last year, Yahoo announced that Yahoo Mail, its free webmail service, would provide unlimited storage. Just in case that wasn't totally clear, that's "unlimited" as in "infinite." So the market price of online storage, at least for email, has now fallen to zero (see "Webmail Windfall"). And the stunning thing is that nobody was surprised; many had assumed infinite free storage was already the case. For good reason: It's now clear that practically everything Web technology touches starts down the path to gratis, at least as far as we consumers are concerned.
The driver’s ed everybody needs
Why am I doing this? Two reasons, actually. Reason No. 1 A public relations flak e-mailed me out of the blue and asked if I would like to come be a guinea pig at the Aspen Motorsports Parks new winter driving school before it opened to the public. Full disclosure: She promised free breakfast and lunch. Reason No. 2 The e-mail made it sound as if there might be a chance to do doughnuts on a huge patch of ice in a front-wheel-drive Ford Escort going about 40 miles an hour. The idea of this alone was enough to make me skip a morning of powder turns. While driving around the new winter track set up at the privately-owned Woody Creek club, however, it becomes readily apparent to me that theres another reason Im here. Reason No. 3 I need this course like Britney needs round-the-clock counseling.
Beltline donors unfazed by ruling on financing
Major donors to Atlanta's Beltline initiative remain steadfast behind the project despite a negative ruling from the Georgia Supreme Court this week that will impact the financing for the development. The court ruled that school property taxes could not be included as part of the tax allocation district, or TAD. That means the project will receive about half of the revenues that were projected to come from the TAD. .

Foreclosures in Mich. decline
Foreclosures in Michigan may have hit their peak and finally be heading downward, new data released Tuesday suggests. That would be a welcome development in a state that has endured one of the worst economic downturns and most severe housing slumps in decades. A decline in foreclosures would be a first step, albeit small, to a real estate recovery that experts predict could take several years. Michigan foreclosure filings in January declined 7.03 percent compared to the same month a year ago, to 10,746, according to RealtyTrac, a Irvine, Calif.-based firm that tracks foreclosure numbers. In Metro Detroit -- encompassing Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties -- filings declined 23 percent year over year. .
Man dies after being hit by van in Mantua Township
MANTUA TWP., N.J. -- A man who was walking north on Glassboro Road near Lambs Road, carrying an umbrella and pushing a bicycle, was hit by a van and suffered fatal injuries early Wednesday. Jaglar Singh, 62, had a last known address in North Plainfield, but police believe he had been staying somewhere in Pitman. Singh, dressed in black, appeared to have been struck from behind by the 1999 Ford Econoline van, driven by Richard Mack, 41, of Pitman, said police. Mack stopped his van and dialed 911 for help at about 5:34 a.m. A Glassboro police officer, who was returning from transporting a prisoner, was first on the scene and he and other officers administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until emergency medical technicians arrived to take over, police said.

These volunteers have taken it upon themselves to once again organise a Stride Against Cancer event in North Side. Stride Against Cancer is a walk/run fundraising event for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society on Sunday, 27 January. The North Side event will begin at 7:00 am from the boat ramp by Over The Edge and will end at Kaibo.
Soldier's words from Iraq can inspire us all
At the end of each of those briefings, the chaplain introduced "The Hero of the Day," a fallen soldier. That part always held Bart Newman's attention. Day after day, month after month, the men's stories haunted Newman. He was a husband and father just like many of them. They hadn't gotten out alive. Maybe he wouldn't either. He thought about his 18-month-old daughter, Kate, and what he would say to her about life if he didn't come home to say it. Bart Newman had a lot to say about God; about choosing a husband and about what she might do with her life. He told his baby girl to make Jesus the center of her life because there was nothing more important than figuring out where she'd spend eternity when she died. He told her about his relationship with her mother, Jules, as he calls her; that he believed we could have marriages of passion, devotion and love if we'd only see our relationship with our spouse the way God does and not the way the world does; and instead of asking what she would do with her life, ask herself "how will eternity be different because of me?" The God that Bart Newman hoped Kate would one day believe in was the same one at the center of his prayers.
